Kyiv, Ukraine

Stepan Ryabchenko is a leading representative of contemporary Ukrainian art and one of the most prominent artists in the international context of digital and media art. His artistic practice encompasses digital art, conceptual architecture, sculpture, light installations, photography, and graphics, forming a holistic visual mythology — worlds inhabited by imaginary beings, fictional forms of life, and metaphysical landscapes governed by internal laws created by the artist himself.
In 2010, the artist received the Art-Act Prize at the First All-Ukrainian Triennial of Abstract Art, along with the jury’s special distinction “For the Visualization of the Image.” The following year, he was nominated for the PinchukArtCentre Prize, and in 2012 became a laureate of the international Kyiv Sculpture Project Award. At the end of 2015, Forbes Ukraine included Ryabchenko in its ranking of the “30 Most Successful Ukrainians Under 30.” In 2019, he won the international competition for the sculptural symbol of Odesa Airport; a year later, he was named a finalist of the Tampa International Airport Public Art Project in the United States. In 2020, Ryabchenko was appointed chief curator of Art Laboratory, a creative association founded in 1996 by his father, Vasiliy Ryabchenko. That same year, he conceived and curated Strange Time, an international exhibition project created in virtual space during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bringing together renowned artists from different countries and continually expanding with new participants and works, the project became an innovative form of presenting contemporary art in a digital environment. He was also the first artist invited to represent Ukraine at the Changwon Sculpture Biennale in South Korea. In 2021, the British platform Electric Artefacts named Ryabchenko among the 15 best digital artists in the world, and the artist represented Ukraine at Expo 2020 Dubai. In 2022, he received the Mykhailo Bozhyi Prize in the category of Monumental Art. In 2025, Ryabchenko became a corresponding member of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine and, at the end of the year, represented Ukraine at the 10th Beijing International Art Biennale.
Stepan Ryabchenko’s works have been exhibited in leading art institutions in Ukraine, including the National Art Museum of Ukraine, Mystetskyi Arsenal, PinchukArtCentre, the Ukrainian House National Center, the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, the National Conservation Area “St. Sophia of Kyiv,” the Modern Art Research Institute of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, M17 Contemporary Art Center, the Museum of the History of Kyiv, Kyiv City Art Gallery “Lavra”, and the Central House of Artists (Kyiv); the Odesa National Fine Arts Museum, the Odesa Museum of Western and Eastern Art, the Museum of Odesa Modern Art, the Odesa Literary Museum, and the Ukrainian Sea Fleet Museum (Odesa); YermilovCentre (Kharkiv); and Korsaks’ Museum of Contemporary Ukrainian Art (Lutsk).
